SERVICES

We all have moments in our lives where we feel anxious, or overwhelmed, or an immense sadness. We all have experienced times in which we perhaps doubt our own abilities to deal with things.

At Resolute Counselling & Psychotherapy it is my goal to assist you in meeting goals that we agree to work together on. This may be in relation to better coping with depression or anxiety, controlling anger, discovering ways of dealing with conflict in a relationship, managing important life transitions, dealing with stress caused by your job or family life, or overcoming feelings of pain due to a trauma.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN YOUR SESSION

In sessions, we will focus our work on the goals we identify together. In each of our sessions, we will explore a new coping technique which you will practice at home. Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all, and so practicing what we discuss in our sessions is vital for a positive therapy outcome.

You and I will engage in caring and confidential conversations about why and how you may be may be feeling or doing the things that you do. I will design a therapy plan that is tailored to your goals and your needs and if necessary help you discover coping techniques. It is my goal that you will learn skills to help you change your mindset and shift your perception to experience life more positively and healthy. We might look into different therapy modalities, such as:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

  • Self-Regulation Therapy (SRT)

  • Solution Focused Therapy (SFT)

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Eye Movement Integration (EMI)

Christian Counselling
I am also an ordained minister and am able to work with you on spiritual aspects of your life whether that be Christian counselling or combining psychotherapy with Christian beliefs.

Counselling/Psychotherapy

The terms counselling and psychotherapy are often used interchangeably, however there are both subtle and distinctive difference.

Psychotherapy is often treatment-based to address mental health issues such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, depression, etc. The process of Psychotherapy tends to be focused more on the client’s thought processes and the development of insight into chronic physical and emotional problems. It can be used in tandem with physician prescribed medication, but this isn’t always the case.

Counselling is generally the term that is used to describe a relatively brief treatment that is often focused upon behaviour. It focuses on a specific symptom or problematic situations and looks for common or recognizable symptoms so as to address aspects of dealing with the situations presented.

Trauma

A natural response to going through a difficult and traumatic event or situation is to start questioning your own life and those around you. You might feel alone in dealing with a social stigma that is perhaps attached to experiencing intense emotions and you may even begin to experience strong reactions such as nightmares, flashbacks, loss of concentration, memory problems and a loss of interest in usual activities.

There can be times when a previous trauma develops in something called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Traumatic experiences can become quite debilitating and interfere with the enjoyment of some of the simplest things that we once found quite relaxing. There are a number of treatment models available to help a person who is suffering with the aftereffects of trauma. In addition to the regular talk therapy I have found that Eye Movement Integration (EMI) has had good success in delivering positive results. EMI uses guided eye movements to assist a client to access recorded information in multi-sensory, cognitive and emotional forms. The outcome often results in the mind being able to heal itself using its own inner resources. I am certified as an EMI practitioner.
